DESCRIPTION :

  • Machine seam of the block of pages with 2 reinforced guard sheets of muslin made by the plate (on the bindings alternatives - reinforcements, seam with leaves of guard without muslin).

Recommended for: Volumes made up of thick signatures (over 30 pages each) that are bound in the middle, and whose spine margin is too narrow or made of paper that is too heavily coated to be trimmed or glued. Used mainly for periodicals and journals.

DESCRIPTION:

  • Sewing holes of all signatures in the volume, to be sewn into a single block (several holes are made in the spine of the signatures).
  • Insertion of threads into the designated notches.
  • Hand sewing through the centre of each signature, to attach to the threads in each of the holes.

Spiral seam (special punch)

Recommended for : Volumes having been puddled (pages held together by a spiral of plastic or metal) and having a back margin too narrow to be cut and glued.

DESCRIPTION :

  • Removal of the spiral.
  • Hand sewing through all the holes originally made to install the spiral.

Recommended for: Volumes with a block of pages between 1 cm and 2.5 cm thick with glossy or semi-glossy paper.

Summary: Rigid binding with Bougran back and hardbacks. Several bound booklets in one volume can be undone to add a missing booklet.

  • Machine sewing of the block of pages with 2 reinforced leaves of muslin made by the dish. The machine first holes the back and then sews in the same holes.

Overlock seam

Volume status before binding: flexible, new or used

Recommended for:  Volumes with a block of pages made of glossy or semi-gloss paper, with enough margin on the back for this type of sewing and more than one centimeter thick. Often used for cookbooks with multiple frozen images.

DESCRIPTION :

  • Back cut.
  • Sewing in the overlock machine made by the dish including the sheets of guard.
  • Pressing the cover sheets to hide any visible wires.

Recommended for : Volumes composed of thin fascicles (at least 30 pages) and united by the center.

Recommended for :Volumes composed of a single booklet whose pages are joined by the center, having a back margin too narrow or being made of paper too iced to be cut and glued. Warning ! This seam can not be made on fascicles over 1 cm thick. Often for musical scores or books already sewn or stitched in the center, but with little margin.
